Leadership Team

Team Approach

Durafil’s mission is to safely guide the industry into a better future. We do so by securing and continually reviewing the British standards for excellence.

This not only requires rigorous adherence to existing specifications; it also asks for a mind that remains wide open to new solutions. As technology and knowledge revolutionise the world at an unprecedented pace, what’s Best Practice today is often merely “good” practice tomorrow.

Our accessible and personable leadership team members have different backgrounds and complementing strengths. But they all combine their considerable skills and experience with great humility and openness to disruptive innovation. They all appreciate the value of first principles thinking.

With the advent of big data, AI and advanced robotics, change is coming. And no matter how unorthodox, if progress can be made in a safe and sustainable way, Durafil will set the new standard.

Meet the Leadership Team

Maurice Ting

CEO and Manufacturing Director

Grown up in British Mauritius and educated in England, Maurice has been in the spinning industry since the 1980s. He managed the establishment of several Coats factories in Asia and Africa and was instrumental in bringing spun polyester technology to India.

Maurice was also involved in establishing A&E in China as well as setting up the Amann supply chain in Bangladesh. Since joining Durafil in the 1990s, Maurice has maintained close working relationships with all the major international thread manufacturers.

Maurice is 100% future-focussed, leading the integration of artificial intelligence and robotics into the new standards for sewing thread manufacture. Based in Hong Kong and overseeing Durafil’s Asian operations, Maurice helps customers be on the right side of change.

Nicola Pollock

Spinning Technologist, Head of UK Operations

Nicola was born and educated in South Yorkshire, the historical epicentre of British spinning mills. She went on to study textile technology at the research university of Leicester and subsequently pioneered the collaboration between the European textile industry and Japanese company Nitivy, who manufacture advanced PVA yarns for specialised applications. Coordinating Nitivy’s European operations for over 20 years, she gained a keen appreciation for Japanese industrial practices and attention to detail.

Based in Leicester, Nicola today maintains Durafil’s partnerships with all UK and European industry groups. Her personable approach and dedication to uncompromising quality makes her a go-to person for everyone from factory floor managers to business developers.

Joan Santamaria

Spinning Technologist, Head of EU Operations

A proud native of Catalonia and graduate of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Joan has run European spinning mills ever since 1990. He has a deep understanding of what it takes to transform traditional practices into modern industrial processes. Key to this is building a strong local team, and Joan has a unique ability to develop efficient knowledge and training systems.

Since joining Durafil, Joan has worked closely with Maurice on disruptive innovation, with a particular focus on circularity. He is today leading our sprint toward a fully sustainable future.
